How to choose a Korean dermatology clinic: 5 key checks

"There are so many clinics in Korea — how do I choose?" That's the question we hear the most. Instead of just looking at marketing or before-and-after photos, build your own decision framework. This article gives you five practical checks.

1. Look at "medical identity" first — not just how pretty the space looks

A dermatology clinic (피부과) is, by definition, a medical institution. Before choosing, verify: is the clinic licensed under Korean medical regulations; are the procedures performed by qualified doctors / medical personnel; and are the equipment and workflow properly managed. You can verify this through the clinic's website, on-site license display and other public sources.

2. Is the consultation really "1:1 with the doctor"?

When you arrive, who actually assesses your skin and decides the plan — the doctor, or a sales consultant? A trustworthy clinic should let you meet the decision-maker first. If the flow goes straight from "package pitch" to "checkout", that's a red flag.

3. Is the plan transparent and explainable?

A good plan answers three questions: why this treatment (what's the basis), how soon you'll see results and how long they last (expectation management), and what the risks and recovery look like (not avoided). If a clinic only talks benefits, never the limits, be cautious.

4. Is communication really smooth?

Skin management involves a lot of technical detail — concentration, energy, depth, aftercare. When language doesn't match, information tends to get "simplified away". Whether the clinic offers reliable Chinese consultant / translator accompaniment, and whether they can explain things in language you actually understand, makes a huge difference in the experience.

5. Is aftercare follow-up complete?

Skin management doesn't end at "you're done". Are aftercare instructions given in writing? Is there someone who checks your recovery after you leave? This is often the best signal of how professional a clinic really is.

Keep the choice in your own hands

You're not picking the "most popular" clinic — you're picking the one that best fits your current self and is willing to explain things clearly. Use the five checks above as your list during the first consult, and the answer will get clearer on its own.
